I am not sure about that

I am not sure about that

Another very common expression.

And just like before, you should think of it as its own set phrase, with its own special meaning.

When you say: ‘I am not sure about that,’ what you are actually saying is I think you are wrong, or I disagree with you. It could also mean that you do not want something.

  • ‘Pamplona is a city in Portugal.’ ‘Portugal? I’m not sure about that.’
    • (= I think you are wrong)
  • ‘I like Kevin. He is very trustworthy.’ ‘Kevin? I am not sure about him.’
    • (= I disagree)
  • ‘I could murder a pizza. Do you want me to order one?’ ‘I am not sure about that.’
    • (= I do not want it)

Warning You cannot say: “I am not sure of that.” Red Cross
